[ he's alerted when she mutes the TV and starts to look around, looking away from the movie immediately as she listens hard and then crouches down to press her ear to the ground. something downstairs. eyes narrowing, he gets to his feet quietly. his sword is resting against the side of the armchair, but he doesn't reach for it yet. ]
Danger?
[ the expression on his face is one of slight annoyance rather than anything like fear. usually, their apartment is safe. if it were just the downstairs neighbors, he'd be relieved. ]
[she frowns a moment, sitting up and leaning back on her heels. there are sounds nearly everywhere now; she can't pinpoint a location. one minute it's beneath them and the next it's coming from the kitchen, and then it's both at once. quickly, she signs:]
Something's in here with us.
[she stands up, eyeing the kitchen carefully. there's salt in there, and she usually keeps some on her, but not today. today was supposed to be a day they could just relax, to do whatever they wanted or needed to without interruption. apparently, asking for that is not acceptable. she pads over to her sword, which is blessed with holy water, latin inscriptions and protective signs.]

[ it's late already, the sky outside dark and starless with the light from the city. nic frowns and picks up his own blade, turning it over and resting his thumb against the square guard. ]
I'll go look.
[ he's no use here, when he can't hear where it's coming from. he sees where she's looking, though; the salt's easy to reach in the cabinet. it's the one ingredient he knows the location of in the kitchen. drawing a few inches of blessed iron, he walks quickly through the doorway and starts digging through the cabinets. ]
[baby doesn't let him go alone. there's something about what's happening that's telling her to be more wary, to have a back up. it just isn't right. the air is thick and strange in her mouth in some areas of the room, making it hard to breath, whereas in the kitchen, the air cools.
she draws her blade. the way she sticks to nic's side is not like her, but she wants to be extremely careful. they've never had them invade their home before. as nic looks for the salt, there's a creek of a door opening a few inches, and then, downstairs, a door slams and someone shouts.
that makes her rush for the holy water on the counter. even if their weapons are blessed, a quick splash of the water can slow supernatural creatures down in case of an emergency.]
[ he nods absently, acknowledging her as he reaches into the cabinet and pulls out a large container of salt, which he holds in his free hand for a moment before setting it down on the table and opening the lid.
nic sees her dash for the holy water, unsheathes his blade and picks up a handful of salt. he feels an unnatural coolness pass over the back of his neck and his eyes narrow. something from the corner..?
just to check, he throws the handful of salt into the corner farthest from the window and is rewarded by a shriveled figure materializing into solid form for a moment, mouth contorted in a shriek he can't hear. ]
[it's the shriek that sets her off-- all offense and no defense. she whirls around so fast that the jar of holy water is sent rolling back to the counter (she'll catch it, and if she doesn't, she knows nic will). she's throwing her sword before she can even think; it's all reflex by now. but she's too late-- whatever had been there is gone, and all her sword stabs is the wall.]
What was that?
[she frowns, glancing up to nic. she's sure she's seen some sort of description in the local news, and maybe even something in their bestiary, but she can't pin its abilities just yet.]
[ he shrugs (don't know) and grabs another handful of salt. ]
Ghost?
[ it might be anything, but it seems to be some kind of haunting—even if it's not exactly a ghost. some kind of malevolent spirit, maybe. nic draws his sword and backs up to the doorway, just as another thump sounds, back in the living room. nic's still investigating the place where he'd thrown the salt. ]
[well, obviously it's a ghost of sorts. it's what kind of ghost. or, wait-- maybe it's a banshee. she signs as she speaks,]
I know it's a ghost. Something's different about it, though. It's like it's everywhere at once. Maybe there's more than one?
[her eyes dart towards the sound, but she doesn't move towards it. she walks closer to where the ghost had been to tug her sword from its place in the wall.]
[ nic's not exactly capable of telling where other noises are coming from, but he does feel the cold breeze from the doorway. frowning now, he slashes his katana through the air and is rewarding by another gust of wind right to the face. they're getting warmer (figuratively). ]

Just past the doorway. You want to go?
[as soon as they take care of this, they have to go on a vacation. they need a break.]
We can probably trap it if we keep moving forward.
[she glances to the container of salt on the counter. maybe they could box the ghost in by making salt barriers.]
