BODY AND APPEARANCE

1. Describe the character's height and build. Is he heavyset, thin, short, rangy?

He looks about as tall as Badou when they're walking side to side, but then you realize he is wearing heeled boots 80% of the time. So, he's probably a few inches shorter, about 5'9" max. He's pretty thin, but heavy for his build because he's mostly muscle.

2. How old is he?

I usually say he's in his early to mid-twenties, but his first awareness is when his body appears approximately 9. His physical age is currently about 25. So he's about... 16.

3. Describe his posture. Does he carry himself well or does he slouch?

His posture is really terrible. He slouches when he's relaxed or feeling calmer than usual, and will lie bonelessly all over your furniture. Or, uh, the church pews. Usually, though, he's extremely stiff and ready to react aggressively. He's very quick to move into a fighting position.

4. How is his health? Is he fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities?

Heine's physical health is really, really, good! Due to the Spine, he's in top physical shape and has no problems. Also, he is cut for a skinny man.

5. How does he move? Is he clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid?

TENSE AS HALE. He tends to move as quickly as possible and is light on his feet. This is mostly from the fact that he fights a lot and he needs to be able to react and fight back quickly.

When he is feeling unguarded, though, which isn't often, he tends towards a more fluid physical attitude, but this basically only happens when he's alone with Nill.

6. How attractive is this character physically? How does he perceive himself in the mirror?

Einsturzen describes him as a "pretty child". He's a rather pretty man, at that, and he is also extremely fit. As for his self-perception, he doesn't really like looking at himself in the mirror. It reminds him of all the scars he doesn't have and how he should have died, oh, about ten minutes after he first woke up.

7. Describe his complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred?

He's albino (DISREGARDING THE GENETIC IMPOSSIBILITIES BECAUSE CLONES, hello scientific anomalies). While this would normally mean that his eyes are blue or blueish-purple, they're depicted as an unsettling bright red.

8. Describe his hair: color, texture, style.

Stark white (even though it's NOT SUPPOSED TO BE why do I still read this series), light and feathery. It's thick, though, and spikes up all around. It sticks up no matter how much combing goes into it, and it's quite soft. Weirdly so, seeing as he doesn't give a shit about it. It's shorter on the back of his head than it is on top, and he cuts it regularly, since it grows fast and tends to fall in front of his eyes.

9. What color are his eyes?

Red. They tend to darken when he's angrier or when the Dog's presence is more prevalent.

10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features?

Nasty scars all around his neck from the removal of the collar, surrounding the remnants of the metal implanted and welded into his neck. They continue right along the nape of his neck, down his back, and end just above his tailbone. His teeth are also slightly pointier than they should be.

11. What are his chief tension centers?

Shoulders and arms.

12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does he have six of the same suit?

When he's outside, it's largely monochrome and red, tight and involving too much leather, because no one taught him how to dress. If he's indoors or somewhere less combative in atmosphere, he wears looser things — normal shirts, not-heeled boots. He also has a tendency to wear collared shirts or high-collared jackets to cover his neck.

13. Do his clothes fit well? Does he seem comfortable in them?

They fit really well. Heine sometimes buys and gets clothes through the Bishop, who is creepy as fuck and knows everyone's measurements.

14. Does he dress the same on the job as he does in his free time? If not, what are the differences?

Nope. He wears darker clothing on the job, since he often works in darker alleys where he doesn't want to be seen. And, blood shows up less on black! When he's not so worried about this kind of thing, he'll wear lighter colors.

15. You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando?

Probably briefs.

SPEECH

1. What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse?

His VA is Takahiro Sakurai in the OVA! His voice is mainly monotone, and is usually smooth unless he's under stress, 'Stress' being the encroaching of an alternate persona inside his head who wants to kill everyone. Then, his voice gets rougher.

2. How does he normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does he talk easily, or does he hesitate?

If Heine is actually trying to say something meaningful, he'll have a lot of trouble finishing a single sentence. Otherwise, he's very practiced in insults and threats! He usually talks lowly but clearly.

3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics?

Not really. He manages to avoid stuttering or verbal tics unless he's trying to avoid answering questions or change the subject.

4. What language/s does he speak, and with how much fluency?

Whatever language is native to the city! It appears vaguely European in appearance, and due to some of the names, is probably somewhere around Germany.

5. Does he switch languages or dialects in certain situations?

No, he only knows one.

6. Is he a good impromptu speaker, or does he have to think about his words?

Most of the time, all he says is only for the purpose of intimidation or giving a snappy retort. He's pretty good at those. As long as he's committed to a course of action, he speaks well, even if he's being threatened (see the confrontation with Granny Liza at the church).

7. Is he eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change?

He's not eloquent at all. Usually, he tries to use as few words as possible.

MENTAL AND EMOTIONAL

1. How intelligent is this character? Is he book-smart or street-smart?

He's very good at surviving in places that demand street-smarts, and his abilities lie mainly in combat. He is good at rote memorization, though, when he thinks it matters.

2. Does he think on his feet, or does he need time to deliberate?

Due to a long history of physical combat, most of his thinking is done on the spot! He makes decisions quickly and can generally turn a situation positively.

3. Describe the character's thought process. Is he more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical?

Largely intuitive. Heine goes with whatever seems best at the moment, and is more practical than anything else. Any sort of idealism he had disappeared very early on.

4. What kind of education has the character had?

The largest part of Heine's education comes from whatever other people tell him, such as Bishop. Therefore, most of his knowledge came from older books. He isn't exactly a good student, to be fair, and while he could probably explain how to use a rifle to someone who's never used a gun before (assuming he has the patience), he has no idea what a participle is.

5. What are his areas of expertise? What, if anything, is he interested in learning more about?

Areas of expertise: SHOOTING THINGS. FIGHTING THINGS. KILLING THINGS.

He has little interest in improving his knowledge.

6. Is he an introvert or an extrovert?

Extremely introverted. He rarely shares anything personal about himself, and social interaction visibly tires him.

7. Describe the character's temperament. Is he even-tempered or does he have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven?

Mood swings, sort of. On the job, usually with Badou, he's aggressive and combative. He can rile people up with his jackassery on purpose to get them off their guard, and he bickers with Badou so much much that people are sometimes surprised to see them apart. But alone or with people who know him, Badou included, Heine can be extremely subdued, mopey, and generally more inclined to lie down and stew in his own regret.

The Cerberus Spine is an entirely different story. It's loud, vulgar, and basically the opposite of Heine when he's down. It laughs at dying people and literally tears off people's faces with Heine's teeth and is generally the life of the party, if the party is one where most of the people are dead by the end of it.

8. How does he respond to new people or situations? Is he suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic?

All career killers are naturally suspicious and paranoid, and Heine is no different. At the same time, the depression and regret that eat away at him make him indifferent. He can't care enough to dredge up the enthusiasm.

9. Is he more likely to act, or to react?

React, but he also knows when to make the first move in combat situations.

10. Which is his default: fight or flight?

Fight.

11. Describe the character's sense of humor. Does he appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks?

Really shitty gallows humor. He doesn't treat death like it's nothing, but he's so used to it that he's fine with making morbid jokes about it.

12. Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does he deal with them?

Probably PTSD, schizophrenia, and anger issues.

13. What moments in this character's life have defined him as a person?

Killing Lily.

14. What does he fear?

Not being able to achieve revenge.

15. What are his hopes or aspirations?

Killing Einsturzen. That's really about it.

16. What is something he doesn't want anyone to find out about him?

???

RELATIONSHIPS

1. Describe this character's relationship with his parents.

Technically, he doesn't have parents. His clonefamily, on the other hand... he says repeatedly that his only wish for the future is to kill Angelika Einsturzen, and it's questionable if he even knows about Neubauten.

DAILY LIFE

1. What is the character's financial situation? Is he rich, poor, comfortable, in debt?

He seems comfortable enough, considering he occasionally doesn't even bother taking his full cut for jobs with Badou. He doesn't have many expenses outside of ammunition and clothes ruined from fighting.

2. What is his social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected him?

3. Where does he live? House, apartment, trailer? Is his home his castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does he share it with others?
