god, he called for rain
[ the shatterdome is too loud, smells of seawater and sweat, and half the time k-science won't even let him stay in the lab, one of the few quiet places in the entire base. but it's home, in some ways, because heine has lived here for more than half of his life.
and that reason is also the reason why he's doing the introductions for the new pilot arriving today. she's not new new, but new to this shatterdome. heine has read her file.
now he's in his fatigues, arms crossed as he waits on the tarmac for her to arrive. there's a lot to go through before her jaeger even arrives. ]

Naoto leaned back in her chair, watching as the actors and actresses signed a few autographs and spoke with their few fans.]
It did seem like ultimately nothing really happened.
[Maybe it would have been better with action.]
The food was decent, at least. Would you want to come again?
no subject
[ heine pushes some remannts around on his plate, then sets his fork down for the last time. ]
Maybe for the food. Not for a play, until I learn Russian.
no subject
I could help you learn some. I'm a bit rusty but...
[She twisted her hands in her lap, frowning slightly.]
Would you really want to stay here that long?
[There were warmer places, after all. Places that they wouldn't stand out half as much or could hide easier. Still, if given the choice, maybe she wouldn't mind staying here. Close to her friends and her family.]
no subject
[ nor does he want to go anywhere in particular. ]
Here's fine. [ after he... buys some warmer clothes. ]
no subject
Instead she'll signal for the check, twisting slightly in her chair.]
If that changes, let me know. Or don't stay on my account.
[Still, if they are going to stay...]
Should we look into getting a more permanent place tomorrow?
[It doesn't even really occur to her that Rammsteiner might want to have a separate place.]
no subject
It's not like I can't leave. Even if it's temporary.
Yeah. Like an apartment or something. [ somehow living together or at least close together is natural. ] There's a residential area nearby, right?
no subject
[It was odd to think they were dependent on each other, anyway. They were both free to come and go, and yet it hadn't really occurred to Naoto until this moment. She would chalk it up to the fact that they had been busy trying to escape and hide out.
Once the check was taken care of, she stood, grabbing her jacket and buttoning it up snug.]
Yes. Something near the water would be nice.
[More expensive too, most likely, but maybe there was a 'we were jaeger pilots' discount.]
no subject
[ but living away from the water seems weird and wrong now. ]
All right. We can start looking tomorrow.
[ heine gets up as well after paying his part of the bill, bracing himself for the cold outside. ]
no subject
She started out the door, nodding in agreement.]
How about we start at noon?
[Maybe she was still a little jet lagged, but she hadn't gotten to oversleep in ages. Besides, if she did get up early she could do a bit of research.
She paused to look at his expression as they headed out the door, flagging down a taxi quickly.]
We should get you proper clothes first.
[A permanent place wasn't as important, honestly.]
no subject
[ he really wants to sleep in, not going to lie. ]
Now, or tomorrow? [ he's shivering already, and finally giving into the fact that he needs at least a thicker jacket. ]
no subject
[There wasn't a point in commenting on his stubbornness, especially since the cold was probably rebuke enough. She was just going to nudge him towards the taxi first when it pulls up, going around to the other side.]
no subject
[ yep, he's resigned now. heine gets into the taxi, which is at least heated. ]
Where to?
no subject
There were a few shops I was taken to that might be to your tastes.
[She was going to lean forward and give directions to the cab driver, who brought them pretty quickly to a shopping strip.
After paying and getting out, Naoto stuck her hands in her pockets, looking over at Heine.]
Just let me know which one you want to go into.
no subject
[ he's seen her dresses.
but they get there soon enough, and heine stands there momentarily at a loss. the cyrillic characters are even more alien to him than the characters of hong kong. at least those he was used to and could partially understand. ]
Uh. That one? [ it's a small clothes store, sandwiched between a barbershop (closed) and another store (also closed). it looks decent enough, but heine picked it at random. ]
no subject
[Look, she's told him more than once these were gifts. You can't just return gifts, especially if they're functional. If a bit frilly.
She'll give him one more slight frown before heading towards the store, holding the door open behind her as she peered in.
Curious, she let her hands run over the fabric of a few jackets, head tilted to the side.]
They seem sturdy.
no subject
[ he's still unsure about how cold weather works, in russia, anyway. ]
no subject
[She turned to look at him curiously.]
They're practical but do you like them?
[It seemed important, after all that side eyeing he'd given her earlier.]
no subject
[ he flips one along the rack. ]
I guess. They're fine.
no subject
You should get at least three. Gloves and hats too.
no subject
[ it's a foreign concept to heine, but... he goes to get them anyway. he finds a beanie, too, and bundles them up with the jacket to carry to check out. ]
no subject
[She went to stand by him at the counter, looking over his purchases with consideration.]
Maybe scarves and warm underthings would be good too.
[Most of this had been provided to her by the base, and it was hard to think of what all he might need.]
no subject
[ heine gives fuyumine a sideways look. ]
Like. Underwear?
no subject
Yes. It gets very cold here, so there's long underwear you can wear under your regular clothes and jackets to keep warm.
[A small pause.]
Do you need help picking some out?
no subject
[ slightly too emphatic, but heine really does not want to think about long underwear in the first place, much less fuyumine seeing anything he might wear that close to his skin. ]
It's okay. I'll just go check out.
no subject
I'll be over there if you need me.
[She still looked amused as she turned to give him space.]
