CHARACTER INFORMATION
Character Name: Hisoka
Age: 28
Canon: Hunter x Hunter
Canon Point: Post-Greed Island
Character Information: Canon wiki.
Personality:
From his first appearance, Hisoka is just weird. Nothing about his origin is explained. Everyone just accepts that he's wearing a pierrot costume and finishes his charming dialogue with card suits. He smiles at everyone, rarely bearing an expression other than neutral acceptance or a smile. He unsettles everyone who's aware enough to feel his aura and who isn't strong enough to face him. People are afraid of him, despite his goofy appearance--though possibly it's because Hisoka has killed a lot of people. Like, a lot of people. Killing is a casual activity for him, simple and easy as taking a walk down to the park. Hisoka's only concerns are himself and his own entertainment, and killing is his choice avenue for it.
His other method of entertaining himself is building card castles. Killing people, though, is his favorite; Hisoka has no sympathy for other people and in fact delights in a satisfying fight and kill above all other things. When killing, Hisoka displays almost erotic enjoyment toward the process. He toys with his enemies during a fight and is utterly unperturbed when he suffers injuries, as long as he's able to take on a worthy opponent. He likes to see other people's suffering, their persistence, and their eventual bloody death. Whether or not the other party wants to engage is of no consequence. Hisoka's main desire is to find a worthy opponent, which is how he meets the main character of the series, Gon.
Gon and his friends have potential, and it's the only reason why Hisoka doesn't kill them immediately when they go against him. Hisoka has a nearly obsessive fascination with Gon especially after their first encounter and helps Gon because of it, giving him a token that would let him clear one of his trials immediately. Even though Gon doesn't want to take it, Hisoka does act to help him. The motivations behind this, however, are completely selfish. He wants to see Gon grow so that he can have the delight of fighting him later on. Though this might also be the goal of a mentor, Hisoka goes about it in a disturbing way. His interactions with Gon are colored with out-and-out creepiness. He licks his lips around him, talks in a suggestive manner, and generally makes everyone but Gon uncomfortable with his attitude.
But the opinions of others truly don't matter to him. Hisoka is only really interested in people who can fight him or might be able to in the future. When it comes to others, Hisoka usually just brushes them off with a smile or uses them to get to his goals. Only occasionally will he assist because something seems exciting or interesting. He doesn't really have friends, and even his allies find him strange. His flamboyant manners and lighthearted attitude toward bloodshed are presented to hide an extremely violent interior. Hisoka's abilities incredibly sharp. He's a brilliant strategist in all kinds of battles (sports included!) and can easily keep his cool even in life or death battles. His many formidable strengths are fully employed in fights through his intellect and inclination toward trickery; both of his main abilities deal with illusion.
Hisoka kills to amuse himself. Murder amuses him because Hisoka has an extreme thirst for blood. He can pretend to just be a weird clown, but sometimes he can't hold back his nature. After seeing the potential that Leorio and Kurapika have, Hisoka lets them go but in response to their appeal, sinks into a bestial state. His face distorts and his upright bearing turns into a near four-legged slouch as he seeks prey. When he's in this state, Hisoka will take any kill, not just the worthy ones. Killing actually keeps him from becoming fully entranced with the desire to shed blood, satisfying some deep-rooted desire within him.
That said, Hisoka isn't actually inclined toward keeping that side of himself locked away. His main reason for keeping up a relatively normal facade is so that he can collect "toys" he can play with without disturbance. Along with being a very skilled fighter with incredible strength and innate ability, Hisoka is intelligent. He plots and leads people into situations so that he can either help them develop or to fight them. He gets involved with the Phantom Troupe, a band of world-infamous murderers and assassins just so he can get to their leader, Chrollo, and fight him (though he also has fun killing other people in the process). He's constantly balancing pros and cons for every relationship. The only care Hisoka has for others is for whether or not they might be entertaining in a fight. When he does help other people, it's so that they can continue to develop and he can fight them later on. Hisoka manipulates others to get what he wants with no regret or sense of morality.
Even the one character he actually seems friendly with outside of murderous thieve conglomerates, Illumi, can't really be considered a real friend. However they became acquainted, most of what they talk about in canon is related to Gon or Killua. While Illumi has a twisted affection for Killua, Hisoka has a comparable desire to nurture Gon (and some other characters) so that he can become a worthy opponent. Above all, Hisoka serves himself and his twisted desires, and he will go to any lengths to fulfill them.
5-10 Key Character Traits:

Would you prefer a monster that FITS your character’s personality, CONFLICTS with it, or EITHER? Either.
Opt-Outs: Kelpie, gargoyle.
Roleplay Sample:
The musical is a bright, spangly affair, full of sequins and stage effects. Even from his seat in the far back of the theater, Hisoka can see dust fly off the stage as the performers dance about. He's not focused on them, though. Far more important is his target (though still not that important in the long run), one he's taken on for the Phantom Troupe: a potbellied, balding man in a fitted suit. He has two Nen using bodyguards with him, though they're no threat. He can just barely see their weak Ten.
Hisoka leans back in his seat slightly, making no sound despite the creaky auditorium seats. He can wait until the end of the performance, but he's already quite tired of watching it. He also wants to avoid causing chaos, so... that plan will do nicely.
He uses sleight of hand to draw one of his playing cards out of his deck. He tilts his hand back and throws. The card flies several hundred feet across the heads of watchers, too fast to be seen, and lodges in the back of the target's neck. Hisoka smiles, just a little, as the target's shoulders slump, a telltale sign.
The job is done. Hisoka carefully gets out of his seat, which is of course adjacent to the aisle, and slips out of the theater just as the act ends and people begin to applaud. The usher sitting outside gets up as he passes, asking if he enjoyed the show.
"Well. It was an interesting production." He smiles, all cards tucked away. "But I'm afraid it just wasn't what I was looking for. ♣"
