[ it's a combination of the reasons, as well as rohan's desire to keep the sun off of some of the more sensitive items in his house. he takes a few sips of the smoothie before stepping back inside the house to let giorno in. ]

[ the curtains are drawn over most of the windows, but there's plenty of light to navigate by to the living room. once there rohan puts the glass down and pulls some of the curtains of them back, letting the sun in. ]

[ how he enjoys the house more like this. rohan has pretty good taste when it comes to material wealth, and a lot of it he approves, so overall giorno likes being his guest even if rohan can get a bit too intense at times. ]

How's your work been?

My art? [ rohan pushes his hair back with one hand casually, turning towards the window (because the light's coming from there, because he's a vain fucker). ]

The latest chapter published was even better received than the previous one. There was commentary about characters' development being inappropriate in the situation, but it's accurate to how someone of that age and background would react.

[ from where giorno's sitting, he certainly looks good. he makes no pretenses watching him as he drinks his smoothie. ]

That's good to hear. I'm a bit behind - 3 volumes, Mista's already spoiled me because he couldn't wait. I'm too busy nowadays.

You should come back to Europe, Rohan. I'll make time for you. [ looking a bit snobby here, as he has a right to - ] And not just to Paris.

Tell this Mista that discovering the delicacies of the plot and development for oneself is just as important as viewing the visual art.

[ rohan's disapproving, scowl sharp on his face as he drinks more deeply. his tongue flicks out over his lips a second later to gather a stray droplet of the drink. he turns his eyes on giorno again, fully, eyelids slightly lowered. ]

You should show me your operations. I'm thinking of writing a spin-off short series about a family of criminals.

[ a bit sharp, there—he's still annoyed at the thought of anyone being too busy for his manga, and being spoiled in addition to that. ]

From your lips to his ears, [ giorno says, amused. ] No, I can't be too mean to him, he means well despite everything else.

[ as for rohan's request - or rather, his demands, because kishibe rohan doesn't really make requests as far as giorno is concerned, he frowns and drums his fingers on the table, as if to consider. ]

That would require a certain degree of exposure I'm not really willing to show to friends, especially ones who aren't even part of the mafia in the first place.

Not that I doubt your skills - you are quite formidable with Heaven's Door - but it's a big thing to consider, Rohan. [ a rather roundabout way of saying maybe, but for now, no. ] I can put you in contact with certain yakuza, if that'll suffice - ?

If it's a problem of secrecy, I won't include any details about structure or operations. I'm more interested in the mood, the interplay of characters... how do your subordinates treat you? Your rivals? Yakuza, their attitude is different. I need Italian criminals for this.

Secrecy isn't an issue; at least, not with you. And the structure and operations of the Italian Mafia are ... well-documented, despite our best efforts to silence such well-meaning journalism. [ giorno leans forward, something a bit sharp and vicious entering his normally stoic facade as he talks about his own field. what is unsaid in the proceedings: you pose no threat to us. it is an assurance for rohan as it is for giorno, and it carries the weight of his trust as much as it carries a threat. that it has gone unsaid is his gift to him. ]

My problem is exposing you to threats that could potentially disrupt your quiet life here in Morioh. [ a concerned frown. he doesn't really know how rohan will take to his efforts protecting him this way; he is treating him with kid gloves and a glass case as he puts him on a high shelf, in his own way. ] I am not without my enemies, and sometimes they dare to move out of my web. This town has its own scars. I am aware of the Stand user with the ability to turn anything his Stand touches into a bomb - he is from this town, Rohan. You would not enjoy fifty or a hundred of him after yourself. Or the .... other Joestar in this town.

[ giorno is fairly sure he is giving a certain marine biologist some paranoic headaches by being here, after all, but he isn't coming here for business. only kishibe rohan would want him to come to morioh on business for the purpose of his art. it is a bit endearing, if a little alarming. ]

If you were nobody, this wouldn't be such a problem. [ he omits the part where even someone like koichi, who had barely known him before he was a boss, was also attacked, but then again rohan can probably wheedle those details out of him if he hasn't already. ] But you are Kishibe Rohan, and that is where the problem lies. [ a rather rueful smile. ] I can provide you a detailed account, if that's all you need, and I'm sure the others would also love to have you as a guest, but anything more than that .... you'll have to accept my rejection.

Of course that isn't all I need. I don't have to return to this town, so I won't have to bring any... residue back with me to Morioh. Kujo's dealt with worse, even if the Higashikata brat hasn't. Do you think I would give up on a lead because of risk of death?

I have other ways. [ rohan shrugs, one arm wrapping loosely around himself so that his left hand is at his opposite hip, fingers curled towards the palm. relaxed, calm, by the open window, visible from the street outside.

[ but of course giorno giovanna thinks that his own brand of danger and his own flavour of secrets are worth more than what rohan can put on the table. and he recognizes those tell-tale signs of rohan at worst, having to be on the other side trying to reel him in before he hurtles into something he barely understands. observing and researching isn't the same as knowing what to expect, strength of his stand aside. he could not predict how he will be received once he pokes around the italian mafia.

but giorno isn't in the mood to discuss this further, having repeated himself a lot more than necessary, and so he raises his hands in surrender. ]

[ in rohan's own view, he's always in the right. he isn't worried by the threat, either, and his behavior shows it; he's utterly casual even as he walks closer to giorno with his empty smoothie glass. ]

[ he lets rohan take his glass, but he'll be following rohan towards his kitchen. ]

Are you free for dinner tonight? Tonio has something prepared for me, but I don't mind bringing a friend.

[ he also has other reasons to talk to tonio, but that's not as important either. ]

Are you sure you're not just trying to avoid eating alone?

[ rohan's joking, this time; he's pretty sure giorno wouldn't mind eating on his own at all. but he likes tonio, loves his food. ]

You'll have to call ahead if I'm to accompany you.

[ so many health problems tbh. ]

[ rather smoothly; ] I'll let him know that the great Kishibe Rohan is coming and he's been overworking himself, as usual. No doubt he'll be thrilled.

[ he's gonna be dialing tonio's right about now. ]

Of course he will.

[ thankfully, rohan is quiet while giorno makes the call. ]

[ giorno just smiles at him in reply as he lets tonio know on the other side of the line. in between talking about the food and how honored tonio is that kishibe rohan is coming over, giorno asks him warmly about how he's settling in in morioh. he feels for the guy considering who his brother was, and while his visit to the trussardi restaurant might've been a power play, giorno intends to keep it light and without much fuss, at least.

after the call, giorno turns to him and asks - ]

Do you have any plans after dinner?

[ he'll be in town for a while, might as well squeeze as much time from him as possible. ]

[ he can hear bits of tonio over the phone, the cadence of his voice familiar and recognizable. rohan thinks to himself of writing dialogue for a character whose second language is japanese, the intricacies of linguistics...

giorno's talking to him again. rohan brings his attention back sharply and with a slight frown. ]

Life drawing practice. [ he pauses abruptly, eyes traveling over giorno. ] The plan was to work on still lifes, but I could push that back until tomorrow.

Ah, that's interesting. If you don't mind an audience, I'd like to be around? I'm not much for art, but - I'll try not to get in your way.

[ and he does sound excited about it, barely contained in his face as he makes the request of rohan. ]

As for Tonio - he approves of my date, and he's excited to see you tonight.

Tonio ought to approve of me. [ rohan grumbles, because if you save a guy from abalones they owe you a debt, thank you.]

But yes, you should come. I want to draw you.

[ that's surprising. giorno raises his eyebrows at that, and he is silent as he considers it. modesty compels him to turn down the offer, but - giorno is certainly vain enough to throw away his modesty. why shouldn't rohan be interested in drawing him? he is absolutely beautiful.

he bites the inside of his cheek, and then replies with, ]

I'll allow it.

[ rohan rolls his eyes at that. who wouldn't like to be depicted by his hand, he wants to know.

the practice will be welcome and necessary, however, and rohan dismisses the topic just as easily as it had come up. ]

Then I'll see you at dinner. I will have to change and ready myself.
